A Rose is a ... What??

Found this interesting ...um....kitchen? in Prince Rupert, British Columbia June 2007. I am hoping that the big shiny thing on top is an exhaust and not a cistern. Unfortunately, we did not have time to sample Rose's bus-cooking.

District swim meet

Jake had another good weekend in the pool. He swam a 25.2 in the 50 and a 57.2 in the 100, both personal bests.

The meet was held in Carlsbad and is likely the next-to-the last in his high school swimming career (but he plans to swim on in college).

Stu takes these pictures and tells me they are Jacob. I think they could be almost any skinny kid at the pool, and there are certainly lots of them!

Just to let people know

I am not actually as.......pissed off ot the world as I look in the picture. It was taken in Canada when it was freezing cold, the male members of the family laughing their heads off at some joke I didn't get, and I was recovering from a nasty battle with some illness that I got horse pills for but they didn't do much good. So I have an excuse for looking as if I want to kill the next person who talked to me.

Can't have a blog without cat pictures...

Widget was cleared from the vet Friday -- she will have lingering effects from her "blunt trauma," but all should be treatable with a fiber supplement, moist cat food, distilled water, and 2x a day medicine.

She is sweet, loving, funny, and worth it all for that ridiculously loud purr that she is so generous with.

Not sure her gravity-challenged choice of sleeping spots can be treated...

I hope he has a soft landing...

Jake's start in the 100 yard swim from last week... He scored a personal best and finished 6th in the race. Next weekend is the District race in Carlsbad.

Quincy to play Dan in Talk Radio

Quincy will play the role of Dan, the station owner [maybe manager? Quin is not certain...], in Talk Radio for this LCHS's spring production. Play dates will be about the second week of April.

This will be her second LCHS performance: Last spring she played two roles in the Crucible: a drunk and a woman sent to her death because her husband though she read too much...

Another University heard from...

And another school weighs in for Jacob. He was accepted at Clark University (http://www.clarku.edu/) and will travel out there in a couple weeks to interview for a scholarship.

Jake thinks he will relish the "67.6 inches of snow" Clark gets annually and that they advertise on their website. He applied there because of their reputation for involving undergrads in research (affiliated with Woods Hole...) and their 5 year Bachelor's Masters program (5th year free for applicants!).

Will keep you posted...
